Niche Electronics Completes Purchase of New England Manufacturer

Niche Electronics, a leading electronics manufacturing services company, announced today that it had finalized the purchase of L-Tronics, Inc., a contract manufacturing company based in Waltham, Massachusetts.

Founded in 1990, L-Tronics manufactures printed circuit assemblies, wire harnesses, and OEM electrical mechanical devices. The integration of this new facility will equip Niche with redundant sites in three geographical locations, making it able to shift production in the event of service interruptions from machine outages, natural disasters, fires or other unforeseen circumstances.

Niche Electronics crafts high-complexity circuit board assemblies for many industries, providing services from new product introduction to volume production. Niche has operated from its 20,000 SF headquarters in southcentral Pennsylvania since 1997, and its 21, 000 SF in Sarasota, Florida since 2016.

The purchase of the Waltham location will add 8,000 SF and 30 new Niche employees.

Frank Bowman, CEO of Niche, said the completed integration will enable the company to handle increased demand for its services and provide personalized service to the entire East Coast and into the Midwest.

“This new addition represents the beginning of a more accelerated period of planned growth for us,” Bowman said. “We’re excited about our increased presence in an industry whose own growth shows no sign of slowing.”

Bowman noted other key elements of Niche’s growth plan include expanded engineering capabilities and handling a product’s entire evolution from early concept to volume production. The three strategically located facilities also give Niche an optimal geographical reach, enabling personalized service to hundreds of high-tech customers within a three-hour drive.

Customer Advantages of Turnkey Contract Manufacturing

When a business embarks on a manufacturing project — like the construction of printed circuit boards, wire harnesses, and cable assemblies — they often have two choices when it comes to the process: the turnkey approach or the consignment approach.
On the face of it, the consignment option, in which a business acquires its own materials and delivers them to the manufacturer, may seem more cost effective. However, we’ve found through years of experience that the turnkey approach, in which the manufacturer manages the parts and materials acquisition as well as the product construction, offers several compelling advantages related to cost, timeframes, and efficiency.
